Why a "simple swap" has real requirements

Most fixtures mount to a ceiling box, and the box has to be rated to carry the fixture's weight — a heavy chandelier needs proper support, not just the original light box. The wiring has to be connected correctly with the right grounding, and the mounting hardware has to match both the fixture and the box. Height and access add their own considerations: a fixture over a stairwell or a two-story entry needs the right equipment to reach and secure it safely. And if you're adding dimming, the dimmer has to suit the bulbs. None of this is difficult with the right approach, but each detail is where a rushed install goes wrong — a fixture that sags, a poor connection that flickers, or a heavy piece on an unsupported box.

When you might not need us

A light, like-for-like fixture swap in a reachable spot is something many homeowners handle themselves. Where we earn the call is heavy fixtures, high or awkward locations, fixtures needing a box upgrade, added dimming, or a spot with no existing fixture at all (which needs new wiring). If your job is a straightforward low swap and you're comfortable at the panel, we'll say so.

Our installation process

1. Check the box and support

   We confirm the ceiling box is rated for the fixture's weight and upgrade it if not.

2. Mount and wire

   We assemble, hang, level and wire the fixture with correct grounding and connections.

3. Add dimming if wanted

   We match an LED-compatible dimmer to the fixture's bulbs.

4. Test and clean up

   We verify it lights and dims smoothly and haul away the old fixture and packaging.

• The location and mounting height, especially for stairwells and great rooms.
